Get Involved

There are 300+ student-driven clubs, athletic and performing arts programs offered to students throughout all HSE Schools.During the school year, we offer a variety of opportunities that revolve around many interests; academic teams, hobbies, athletics and performing art

Art Club

Art Club is open to all first though fourth grade students who show an interest and love for art. Interested students will ask their parents to complete a permission slip that is sent home in November. A lottery process is held to select 25 students per grade level. These 25 students will stay after school (3:40-4:45) on two separate days (January-March) to complete one finished artwork. Often times these projects are more extensive than what we cover in class.

Math Bowl

Strike! Math Bowl is a rigorous, state academic competition held in late February, and is open to all dedicated and determined 4th grade students. The competition is based on The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics publication Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics. It consists of four rounds of eight multiple-choice questions with a time allotment of 30-60 seconds per question. Three different team members compete in each round, with teams consisting of 12-20 members. This challenging competition encourages and enriches critical thinking, problem solving, perseverance, and team building skills. Look for information about the qualification exam and further details in November. The Bulldogs are looking forward to bringing home another state championship!

Special Music Presentations

Each year, students in grades 2, 3, and 4 incorporate the skills they are learning in music class into a grade-wide performance for their families. Performance themes vary from year to year.
For more information, please contact Ms. Thornsberry.

Student Council

Student Council members are chosen from each 4th grade class. Candidates must present a short speech sharing their reasons and opinions with their classmates as to why they think they would be a good representative. Each class then votes for three students to represent their class. The Student Council is composed of students whose primary role is to: 1. To organize, plan, and coordinate student involvement in community service projects. 2. To assist with special school projects. 3. To serve as an official good-will ambassador for the school. Student Council builds character and develops leadership, confidence, responsibility, organization, and teamwork. Student Council meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 8:15 a.m.
